ViewsTop Gear 02x02From FinalGear.com Wiki
In this EpisodeThe general theme of this episode is "Luxury". Review: Jeremy Clarkson takes the new (and huge) Rolls-Royce Phantom to Hull for a test drive. Despite his initial concerns that it may be too big, German and vulgar, Jeremy ends up being completely won over by the Phantom, declaring it the best car in the world. The final minutes of the road test Clarkson spends talking about the Humber bridge and how it is sad that Britain doesn't do things like that bridge any more, and, specifically, that the new Phantom isn't more British and less German. Cool Wall: Jeremy and Richard try to establish the coolness of the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the Ferrari Enzo and the Audi A3. Both agree that the first two go to the "Uncool" section of the wall: the Phantom because no rockstar will ever buy one and the Enzo because only rockstars buy them. After some debate, Clarkson decides that the A3 is also uncool. Greatest Cars in the World: In this series Top Gear will have several British celebrities champion the cause of a car to be chosen "Greatest Car in the World" by the viewers through a phone vote. The first is Jeremy Clarkson, who chose the Ford Mustang. Challenge: Hammond introduces a new idea for general elections in Britain: Which political party is the fastest around the Top Gear track? In the first part of the challenge, he introduces us the six candidates: Bernard Jenkin, from the Conservative Party, Ian Dixon, from the Green Party, Richard Burden, from the Labour Party, John Ault, from the Liberal Democrat Party, Mark Gibson, from the Legalize Cannabis Alliance and Alan "Howling Loud" Hope, from the Monster Raving Loony Party. News: A bus-boat to use the Thames as a bus-lane. Motorflirt text-message service and potential uses for it. New active-steering system from BMW. Jeremy was shot and he had trouble repairing his Mercedes' windscreen. New Lexus RX300, now with knee airbags. New Daihatsu Charade, which prompts all kinds of amusing anecdotes about Japanese cars in general and Daihatsus in particular. Review: In keeping with the theme of luxury, Richard roadtests one of the Queen's cars: a 1960s Rover P5. Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Britain's 28th worst person, Jamie Oliver is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. He talks about his scooter, his Maserati and his Porsche-powered VW Camper Van. He will try to prepare a salad inside this van while it is being driven round the track by The Stig, with amusing results. He will complete his lap in the Suzuki Liana in 1:50.0, same time as Jeremy's. Insider Dealing: James May advises viewers on what cars they can get good deals on. This week's best deals are the BMW 5-series, Alfa Romeo GTV and Citroën C5. Main Review: The new Audi S4 faces its natural rival: the BMW M3. In the final round (the Stig's Power Lap), the Audi manages to beat the M3 with a time of 1:30.9, to the M3's 1:31.8. Challenge: The candidates do a lap around the track in an MG ZR race car. The winner is John Ault, with a time of 1:33.9. His award is a "safe seat", that is, the front seat from a Volvo. Screenshots
