[edit] In this Episode
Review: Jeremy Clarkson drives a Volvo XC90.
Review: Richard Hammond drives a Subaru Forester 2.0 XT.
Challenge: The team try and lighten an old Jaguar XJS by stripping body panels and other non-essentials out in an attempt to make it as fast as modern supercars. They manage to cut 1.2 seconds off of the old Jag's 0-60mph time.
News:
Main Review: Jeremy looks in to the hot hatch war to see if he can find a winner. Among the contestants are the VW Golf R32, Ford Focus RS, Honda Civic Type R, and SEAT Leon Cupra R. The Stig drives the Focus RS to a lap time of 1:32.2. He then drives the R32 to 1:33.3. As shown in Episode 2, the Ford is again quickest on the track, but Clarkson prefers the Golf because it is easier to control.
Challenge: Hammond receives a challenge to a race from a man with a plane. Top Gear equips the Stig with a Radical SR3 to compete against the pilot and his Westfield XTR aerobatic plane for supremacy of the Top Gear test track. The race is consistently close, with the plane faster in the straights, but the car faster in the corners when the plane is forced to climb high and dive back down. In the end, the Westfield swoops down at the last moment to beat the Stig by a narrow margin. When tested individually, however, the Westfield plane only managed to score a 1:23, while the Radical managed a 1:19.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Famed television chef Gordon Ramsay appears as the SIARPC, crossing the line in 1:50. Clarkson prepared some "gourmet" meals for Ramsay to try during his interview, which included lamb cooked on the engine of a Lada. Ramsay was disgusted, claiming that the food was overcooked and tasted of petrol and motor oil. He rated the dishes as below one star.
