Born in Bristol, England on January 16, 1963 James May is a host on the television show Top Gear. James is uniquely suited to hosting Top Gear due to his background in music. He first began his journey as a member of the automotive press by working as a sub editor for a trade magazine. This led to a columnist position at Car magazine. After leaving Car to take a position on Top Gear, James has gone on to write for Top Gear Magazine and The Daily Telegraph.

James May is notable for his role on Top Gear for his relaxed nature. Not being the type to do Power Tests, James usually presents on more relaxed subjects like new Rolls Royce convertibles. The slow, luxury nature of cars like these is tailored to the casual presentation that James brings to the show.

In 2007, May was awarded the title of heat's "Weird Crush".
