[edit] In this Episode
Review: Jeremy Clarkson tests the Fiat 500 Abarth SS and the Stig takes it around the track, resulting in a time of 1:35:5. Clarkson criticised Abarth for not putting enough "madness" in to the car, but otherwise likened it to a little Lamborghini.
News: Clarkson apologises for not posting the lap time of the Porsche 911 GT2 the previous week (a joke made in reference to his being criticised for his quip regarding lorry drivers murdering prostitutes in the previous episode). He reveals it to be 1:19.5, because the score had 'spontaneously combusted', exactly the same as the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, despite the handling difficulties. It is also faster than the Porsche Carrera GT, which did 1:19.8. Hammond then attempts to place the GT2 time next to the Gallardo's. He jumps to try to reach the top of the lap board, but fails (due to his height), knocking the board down.
Challenge: The boys head to America to test a the latest breed of muscle cars coming out of Detroit. Starting in San Francisco, Jeremy Clarkson in a Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, James May in a Cadillac CTS-V, and Richard Hammond in a Dodge Challenger SRT-8, which had to be purchased due to Chrysler's unwillingness to let Top Gear test another of their cars, made their way across the western United States to reach the famed Bonneville Salt Flats. Along the way, they divert off the Interstate to test the capabilities of their cars, and at one point, James May, who had previously done nothing but rant about how horrid his Cadillac was, overtook Jeremy on a mountainous stretch of road, stunning Clarkson and completely changing May's view on the car. Eventually, after much cocking about, the three make it to their destination, where they set target speeds they would like to achieve on the flats, but not before Jezza gets in a bit of early morning practice in the rented Winnebago motorcaravan. In the final minutes, all three presenters exceed their speed targets of 150 (Hammond), 160 (May), and 170 mph (Clarkson), reaching the conclusion that their cars were the best American cars ever.
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Pop Idol winner Will Young visited the Top Gear studio, and quickly became one of the more infamous guests when Jeremy struggled to find the right words when complimenting him. The whole ordeal could be compared to a schoolboy interviewing his celebrity crush, leading the other presenters to give him a hard time throughout the series. Will Young achieved a 1:48:9 in the Lacetti, putting him in the middle of the board.
